FIU Latvia announces strategic goals for 2023-2027

On December 16, 2022, a meeting of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU Latvia) Advisory Council took place during which FIU Latvia provided an insight into the state of the service and the direction of future activities of key collaborators and other institutions

The purpose of the Advisory Council is to promote the activities of FIU Latvia, as well as to co-ordinate co-operation with investigative institutions, the prosecution, the court and subjects of the Law on prevention of money Laundering and terrorism and proliferation financing (Prevention Law).

 

The activities of the Advisory Council are regulated by the Prevention Law. It consists of representatives from the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Justice, the Financial and Capital Market Commission, the Finance Latvia Association, as well as the Council of Latvian Sworn Notaries and other institutions in accordance with Section 60 of the Prevention Law. One of the Council's tasks is to make recommendations to improve the functioning of FIU Latvia.

 

The December 16 Advisory Council meeting examined a number of topical issues, including the strategic objectives of FIU Latvia for 2023-2027, the development plan and deliverables of the national terrorism and proliferation financing risk assessment Report 2020-2022, the developments in the field of sanctions, a summary of the activities of the Co-operation Coordination Group, as well as the work of FIU Latvia in the field of strategic analysis.
