Heads of Financial Intelligence Units from Nordic and Baltic countries meet in Tallinn to launch new cooperation format

The meeting marks the launch of the new NB8 Task Force, a platform for cooperation among the heads of Financial Intelligence Units in the region. The initiative aims to support a more coordinated, effective and consistent regional approach to emerging challenges in the fields of money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions evasion. Particular attention will be given to cooperation with the Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AMLA). 

"Our region faces many common risks and challenges, including cross-border crime and fraud. Close cooperation between Financial Intelligence Units enables us to respond more effectively and to speak with a stronger and more coordinated voice on the issues that are important for the region to safeguard our financial integrity. It is an honour for the Estonian Financial Intelligence Unit to host the heads and leading experts of Financial Intelligence Units from across the Nordic-Baltic region," said Matis Mäeker, the Head of the Estonian Financial Intelligence Unit.

Estonia also holds the 2026 chairmanship of the broader NB8 cooperation framework at the governmental level, providing a wider opportunity to discuss current issues of regional and international importance and strengthen regional cooperation. 

FIU Latvia is an independent authority responsible for preventing money laundering, terrorist and proliferation financing, ensuring sanctions implementation, protecting the Latvian financial system from misuse, and cooperating with international partners.
