In a meeting with the President of Latvia the Financial Intelligence Unit emphasizes the importance of cooperation in strengthening the safety of the financial system in Latvia

On October 9, during the meeting with the President of Latvia the Head of Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) Toms Platacis and Deputy Head Paulis Iļjenkovs discussed current issues related to the prevention of money laundering, the importance of international cooperation, and preparation for the sixth evaluation round of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money laundering (MONEYVAL).

The President acknowledged the FIU’s active cooperation with the private sector and foreign partners, emphasizing the important role and contribution of the FIU in maintaining a secure financial system in Latvia.

 

During the meeting, attention was also focused on the risk policy of commercial banks in Latvia, and its impact on the availability of financial services. Latvia is committed to balancing effective supervision with economic development, ensuring competitiveness in the global financial market. At the same time, it is necessary to continue promoting and developing both inter-institutional and international cooperation, as well as education and understanding of the risks of financial crimes and their importance, thus protecting Latvia’s financial future.
