Riga hosts discussions on financial crime policy

19.01.2026

On January 21, 2026, the international conference “New Round: Link. Learn. Latvia.” will take place in Riga, bringing together more than 300 representatives from 50 countries. The high-level conference, hosted by the Financial Intelligence Unit of Latvia (FIU Latvia), will serve as a platform for decision-makers from governments, international organisations, European institutions, financial authorities, and the private sector to discuss how countries can strengthen cooperation in an increasingly interconnected financial system.

“We are pleased to host this conference in Riga and to provide a space for a global exchange of perspectives. Holding the conference at the National Library of Latvia is symbolic, reflecting a shared commitment to learning, knowledge, and collective understanding as foundations for stronger international cooperation,” says Toms Platacis, Head of FIU Latvia.

During the conference, participants will discuss how evaluation processes can better reflect operational outcomes, how European-level instruments influence national systems, and how public authorities and the private sector can work together to address emerging risks in a timely manner while effectively managing existing ones.

Further information on the discussions and key takeaways from the conference will be shared in the coming days.

The Financial Intelligence Unit of Latvia is an independent authority responsible for preventing money laundering and terrorist financing, implementing sanctions, protecting the Latvian financial system from misuse, and cooperating with international partners.
