Students learn about FIU Latvia’s role in preventing financial crime

13.02.2026

On 11 February, 2026, Marta Jaksona, Deputy Head of the Financial Intelligence Unit of Latvia (FIU Latvia) for Strategic Development, and Iveta Locāne, Head of the Communications Division, visited the Career Day at the Jules Verne Riga French School (Lycée Français International Jules Verne de Riga). During the event, students had the opportunity to learn more about the work of FIU Latvia and the professions that help detect and prevent financial crime on a daily basis.

FIU Latvia representatives introduced students to the knowledge and academic pathways that can serve as a foundation for a career at the FIU – from law and finance to analytics, data science, and international relations. Students not only asked questions about career opportunities, but also had the chance to “step into the role” through the interactive game “Which FIU superhero are you?” (available in Latvian), discovering which position best matches their skills and personality.

The discussion also covered the pathways of financial crime – how illicit funds move through different channels and why timely detection at every stage is essential.

FIU Latvia appreciates the invitation and thanks the students for their curiosity, courage in asking questions, and willingness to understand how knowledge and responsibility contribute to a safer society.
