Employee Knowledge improvement

The Financial Intelligence Unit has received support within the framework of the programme “International Police Cooperation and Combating Crime” co-financed by the European Economic Area (EEA) grant for the implementation of the project “Improvement of Employee Knowledge in Combating Money Laundering in Latvia”.

The aim of the project

To improve the skills and knowledge of employees and to strengthen the capacity of institutions responsible for monitoring financial institutions and conducting financial intelligence and investigations.

Project target audience

FIU experts and analysts, representatives of law enforcement institutions, Bank of Latvia, as well as employees of Latvian commercial banks in the field of prevention of money laundering and sanctions. Strengthening the knowledge, skills and understanding of their staff will enhance the overall capacity to detect and combat money laundering at the national level.

Project activities

The activities envisaged in the project include training, workshops and exchange visits to other supervisory authorities in the European Union. The implementation of the project will respect the principle of sustainability: the knowledge acquired during it will be transferred to the online training platform and passed on through experience sharing between institutions and staff. Methodological and analytical materials on learning topics will also be prepared.

Project funding

The project is implemented by the FIU and its national partner is Bank of Latvia. The project is allocated EUR 267 235, of which EEA grant funding is 85% or EUR 227 149 and national co-financing is 15% or EUR 40 086. The project will be implemented by 30 April 2024.
